In a world of filters and Photoshop, it can be easy to fixate on “perfect skin.” It’s important to remember that even the healthiest skin has texture. However, sometimes a rough and bumpy skin texture may be a byproduct of past skin concerns like severe acne and hormonal issues. Occasionally referred to as “orange peel skin,” a rough and bumpy texture to the skin can be treated in a variety of ways to help restore radiance and bring about a smoother texture. There are several treatment options that we, at Coco Med Spa, might suggest to help resurface the skin. Let’s get into them!
Laser resurfacing with Moxi
Our favorite laser treatment for rough and bumpy skin is a treatment called Moxi. This treatment is effective at restoring the skin to a healthier, more radiant state with a smoother skin texture. Sessions are quite fast, sometimes as short as 15 minutes, with the earliest results visible in about a week. A series of three or four treatments a month apart is recommended for best results. This treatment has what is called a “prejuvenation” effect. This means it treats visible concerns and future concerns, like sun damage and other signs of aging, developing in the underlying layers of the skin to stop them in their tracks before they surface.
Smooth and renew with a chemical peel
Another option to resurface skin for improved texture is a chemical peel. At Coco Med Spa, we offer multiple chemical peel options at different strengths to be sure to tailor the right treatment to your specific needs. Chemical peels can be done at any time, however, it is often preferred to have them done during cooler months where you are less likely to experience prolonged sun exposure after your treatment. The frequency between treatments and maintenance suggestions should be determined between you and your esthetician for best results.
Rejuvenate and resurface with a microdermabrasion treatment
Finally, among our many treatment options for skin texture, microdermabrasion remains an excellent way to resurface and smooth the skin, reducing and potentially eliminating rough and bumpy texture concerns with regular treatments. Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive, deep, manual exfoliation that promotes radiance, removes impurities, and reduces texture.
It’s important to note that the “orange peel skin” texture is not to be confused with “orange peel dimpling” a condition around the chin that may be treated with Botox.
